About OutCast Lures

OutCast Lures started off when our owner Mike Pham found that the lures he was using to fish for striped bass from the shores of New England were not quite up to his standards. Whether they had inferior hardware, dull color patterns, didn’t last in the harsh saltwater conditions, or just plain didn’t fish well, Mike knew there was a better way.

Starting with some iconic body types, Mike chipped away at the failure points that had frustrated he and many others. Sourcing superior wood stocks, establishing relationships with providers of top quality components, and spending hours perfecting paint schemes and tougher than nails finishes, OutCast Lures began to find a following among the die-hard surf fishermen.

Today, OutCast Lures are recognized as some of the best striper lures available commercially. And our customers find that they produce results with a huge variety of game fish, in both fresh and saltwater.

One of the key characteristics of the OutCast line, is the well thought out weight system. By strategically placing weights inside the hand turned wooden bodies, OutCast lures live up to their name in castability. You will reach more fish, much farther out when you choose OutCast.

As new challenges came in the shape of how to catch ever more fish, the solutions came in unique color patterns, distinctively echoing the forage fish that predators are keyed in on throughout the season. Bunker, herring, mackerel, squid and sand eels make up the bulk of these, but often times exacting patterns are not the trick. Novel combinations of colors, patterns and other simple yet elegant designs have been added along the way.

The same goes for lure shapes and sizes. As target species key in on certain sized feed, the smart angler adapts his offering to match the natural bait fish. And here again, it is not always necessary to exactly replicate the shape of the bait fish (although many of the Outcast styles are based on bio-mimic designs) and taking advantage of lure shape improvements that maximize performance both in the water and during the cast. Once the team is satisfied that the pattern will catch fish, we add these new lures to the OutCast family.

The best example of this is the OutCast Hybrid series. Available in either medium (~3 oz) or large (~4 oz), this weight biased “egg shaped” lure casts a country mile, and swishes across the surface in a fish maddening dance that seems to draw only ferocious strikes. If you haven’t fished on yet, you won’t believe your eyes when you finally tie one on.
